While Eddie Redmayne"s Newt Scamander was the central figure in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, producer David Heyman says that won"t be the case in the forthcoming sequels.
Warning: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them spoilers follow.
When asked about Scamander"s role in future installments by Cinema Blend, Heyman said, "I don"t think [Newt will be at] the heart of all of them. I think he"ll be part—so will Tina, Queenie and Jacob—will be part of the next one."
The producer also discussed a key scene that was cut from the film, which showed Credence (Erza Miller) alive after seemingly dying in the climatic sequence that preceded it. "We actually had a scene, which we cut, which was Credence going to a boat, to get on a boat somewhere else. But we cut that, because we didn"t want to have it be such an, "Ahhh, here we go,"" he said.
When pressed further on the details of the scene, Heyman described it as "him getting on a boat, maybe a boat with Newt, maybe not, and heading off out of New York."
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them had a strong debut last week, topping the weekend box office in North America by a fair margin.
